Rollei Retro 100 Tonal Guide for the film

Opening the camera I found I had loaded Rollei Retro 100 in the camera. Why that had been so, I couldn't decide, and having now seen what the first few frames were I still don't know why I had a 100-speed film in the camera. I decided on developing it for 13 minutes in Rodinal (1+50).

Rollei Retro 100 Tonal is a medium speed black & white negative film with fine grain that retains sharpness and is one of only two early orthochromatic films.

The Rollei Retro 100 is perhaps the best b&w film to achieve the most "classical" (in the best sense of the word of course! ;) b&w pictures. The very fine grain and overall qualities of the b&w sensibility is to be found in this film. I think personally that the secret of this film lies on its middle tones, between the black and the whites.

Yes, APX100 / Rollei Retro 100 and Rodinal 1+50 is very good. For the Rollei Retro 400S you can succesfully use HC-110 in dilution B or H (resp. 1+31 - 1+63). This Gevaert aviation film has extended Red sensitivity and has then a real iso rate around 250-320. The Rollei Retro 80S version (also from Gevaert and extended Red) is very nice in CG.

I developed them at home myself using a semi-stand process of 1:100 Adox Adonal for 1 hour at 20 degrees C with inversions for the first 30 seconds and then 3 inversions at 30 minutes - this is my preferred development process - I always do a pre-soak which gets the film to temperature and washes out the anti-halation layer which in this case wa.

Rollei Retro 100 Tonal

Rollei 80s is a black and white panchromatic film, described as high contrast, fine grained, and with the aforementioned extended red sensitivity. I use it with a plain red filter which effectively blocks blue and green light allowing to pass more on the red spectrum. The effects you get are more subtle, but I prefer it this way.

I asked this question earlier in a hi-jacked thread, so thought I would ask if anyone has reported any quality control problems with Rollei Retro 100? It is manufactured by Efke (Zagreb) using the APX 100 base. Cheers :)
